Tribute to Tradition July 4th!!!!!

June 27th, 2008

Alright folks, we’re bringing it back. This time we’ve decided to celebrate the 4th of July Holiday by throwing our biggest “Tribute to Tradition” event ever! Starting at 11am on Friday July 4th, Russ Abbott, Jason Kelly, Shack, and Christian Ratchford will be tattooing designs from our archives of early American designs. Prices range from $50 to $100. Basically, the deal of a lifetime on tattoos that will last a lifetime. In honor of Independence Day, we are donating all of the proceeds to Operation Homefront- a charity that supports the families of American soldiers from every branch of the armed forces. So everyone (over 18 years old of course) is invited to come down to Decatur, collect a piece of American history and help support the folks who make our way of life possible.

After you get tattooed, stay in Decatur for the parade and fireworks!

Collaborative Tattooing

June 11th, 2008

swamp_ladyNate Beavers wrote the book on collaborative tattooing.  He’s done over 30 with tattooers around the country.  So when he came to Ink & Dagger for a guest spot.  I hit him up to do one with me.  It was my first experience with the collaborative process and I can’t wait to try it again.  From start to finish, Nate and I  collaborated on the concept, design, outline, shading, color scheme, and the textural details.  This is truly an original work of art by an artist that can only exist when Nate Beavers and I join forces again…

Jason Kelly- Atlanta Tattoo Artist

If you’re one of those Atlanta tattoo collectors who stops people with good tattoos, and asks them who did their work, then you’ve probably already heard of Jason Kelly.  What you may not have heard, is that starting June 1st, Jason Kelly is going to be creating those kinds of tattoos at Ink & Dagger.  I’ve been a huge fan of Jason’s tattoos and paintings for quite some time now so when he told me he was looking for a new place to hang his hat, I jumped at the chance.

Jason’s not looking to put too many labels on his work but for those of you who are paying attention I will attempt to tell you what makes his tattooing so good.  The first thing you’ll notice is the vintage feeling his tattoos seem to have.  Part of it’s the subject matter but when you look at his whole body of work, there’s something in the approach that stands out.  It’s intentionally simple, nothing fancy, just solid, tough- looking tattoos.

Whether you’re looking to collect the time- tested American traditional style or want to see your own concept realized by a true craftsman, you would be hard- pressed to locate a finer tattoo artist than Jason Kelly.  Check out his entire portfolio to see more and then head on down to Decatur to meet him in person.  Thanks for reading.
